DofE Canoe Expeditions

We offer Canoe Expeditions for teams at any level of Award, with no previous experience needed.

Why Choose a Canoe Expedition?

Historically, water was the preferred way to transport people and equipment. Today, the canoe remains one of the best ways to explore the world for adventure.

We use stable, open canoes derived from North American designs. They can carry all the supplies needed for a multi-day expedition while handling a variety of water conditions. For many students, the excitement of learning a brand new skill is incredibly rewarding.

An Inclusive Choice: Canoeing is an amazing option for groups who have needs where walking is not viable or preferred. We can adapt the canoes to make the expedition inclusive for almost anyone.

Open Water & The Great Glen

For a truly spectacular Gold Expedition, consider the 'Great Glen' Canoe Trail in Scotland. This coast-to-coast route is a rare opportunity to paddle from one side of a country to the other.

The route takes in views of Ben Nevis and offers an up-close experience with Loch Ness. During training, we teach you essential open water skills, including improvised sailing to take advantage of the breeze.

Wild camping here is breathtaking—imagine waking up to see snow on the summit of Ben Nevis from your tent door.

River Running

If you have never canoed before, River Running is a fantastic way to see the countryside from a new perspective. We train groups to a high standard so you can be fully independent during your expedition.

By packing all your kit in waterproof 'dry bags' inside the boat, you can travel significant distances without the weight on your back. Seeing the landscape change as you descend the river is a highlight of the DofE experience.

We operate on various rivers across the UK suitable for Bronze, Silver, and Gold expeditions.

Canal Expeditions

For first-timers heading out on a Bronze Award, or for groups doing initial training before hitting moving water, canals are ideal.

The UK canal network offers calm, safe water that allows teams to focus on mastering boat control and teamwork without the complexity of river currents. It's the perfect environment to build confidence.

During Canoe Expeditions

We provide qualified staff to train and ensure safety throughout the whole process. While there are a few more technical skills to learn compared to walking, we find this process incredibly fun—training usually ends with great stories and lots of laughter.

We tailor all training to your proposed Expedition. Contact us to discuss your ideas!
