Training and Coaching

What Adventure Beyond offers

Adventure Beyond is actively involved in industry training and we coach to the National Governing Body level. We are able to organise and deliver internationally recognised training and assessment courses. Adventure Beyond provides training and safety courses for all levels:

We provide Schools Water Safety in the local area, from primary to secondary. This course helps with vital safety information and practical skills to keep young people safe near water.

Adventure Beyond can run training and assessment for the following British Canoeing (and home nation associations): Paddle sport safety and rescue course, White Water Safety and Rescue, Paddlesport Leader Award, British Canoeing Core Coach awards, British Canoeing leadership courses (training and assessments) and International Raft Guide Federation Grades 1 to 4.

We also provide validation courses for Coasteering to equip instructors with the relevant safety and rescue skills to take groups out in different sea conditions.

We are on hand to provide comprehensive technical advice and in-house training for schools, workplaces and other outdoor activities providers.

We are an Approved Activity Provider in the training and assessments for the Duke of Edinburgh and National Navigation award schemes.

If you would like further information please contact us.

We will be adding course dates during the season for different awards. In the meantime if there is any training you would wish to undertake please get in contact and we will be more than happy to facilitate.

We are going to be running instructor training courses, so if you would like to work in the industry and would like to get training and awards in a single activity or multi activity - do get in touch.

This is the fun part - if you love the outdoors, this is all about having fun. The best way to learn about activities is by doing them.

During the courses we will be doing lots of practical activities, developing skills and gaining experience. Because we are a functioning centre we are able to offer you experience with groups when you are ready to continue your development.

"Working with clients" is very different from being out with friends, so we will look at this side and help you develop your Instructor skills.

This can be tailored according to skill levels - from the total beginner to the more advanced individual looking at improving their own skills.

Our aim is to build your skills to a high level in a personal and friendly manner.

With this being quite specific to yourself, it would be better to contact us so we can go through your requirements to tailor the coaching to best suit you.

If you are a group of friends, a school, a scout group or any other collection of individuals who love the outdoors and would like to develop your passion to a higher level by gaining some coaching, do let us know your requirements so we can better cater for your needs.

Raft Guide

INTERNATIONAL RAFTING FEDERATION (IRF)

Grade 1-3 Guide

As the recognised body that oversees rafting activities worldwide, the IRF was selected to establish these standards. A GTE committee was created and the advice and help of expert guides, instructors and industry leaders from around the world was solicited to determine what should be included in the standards and how the scheme should be administered and accredited. The basic intentions of the scheme are to provide a means of recognising guides, trip leaders and instructors that meet or exceed internationally accepted standards. The certification awards have been designed to complement existing requirements, regulations and laws worldwide by giving a structure to their common elements. Additionally, the scheme is intended to provide an internationally recognised structure for the professional development of river guides and instructors.

The IRF GTE Certification Award is recognised and accepted around the world as proof of whitewater guiding competency, and in some countries it has been adapted as a national standard and requirement. The IRF is also recognised by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), the two largest tourism bodies in the world, as the world body responsible for establishing and administering commercial raft guide standards.   In all cases, the IRF GTE Certification Award serves as an acceptable proof of guide or instructor knowledge and skills when a regional or nationally issued certification is not required. For guides who wish to travel and work on rivers outside of their own country, the IRF GTE Certification Award is often the only certification they will need. (Some countries may still require a guide to obtain a national or regionally issued certification as well).
