Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award

By this stage most groups have a good idea of their chosen Expedition, but the Silver Award phase provides an ideal opportunity for the participants to consider many different activities. Why not try Canoeing or Kayaking as an alternative activity at a totally new venue? We have seen an increase in recent years of Full Award Completion (Bronze through to Gold) and we feel this is due to our progressive approach to the Award. Our aim is to retain the interest of the participants so that even more of them go on to Gold.

The duration of the Expeditions at this level are as follows:

3 days and 2 nights

At least 7 hours during the daytime (at least 3.5 of which must be spent journeying)

Venues: at this stage it can be beneficial to travel to a different region, refining the skills learned at Bronze level in a new and stimulating area, such as:

  • River Wye and Forest of Dean

  • River Teifi

  • River Severn

  • River Thames starting in the Cotswolds
  • The River Tamar, Dartmoor and Exmoor

  • Scotland, The Caledonian Canal, The Firth of Forth

  • Brecon Beacons

  • Mid Wales

  • North Wales/Snowdonia

  • Peak District

  • Lake District

  • Ireland

  • Pembrokeshire Coast

  • The Norfolk Broads
