Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition Section

At this stage, the world really is your oyster! The Gold award is designed to consolidate the experience gained at bronze and silver by challenging the participants in a completely new environment, be it in the UK, Europe or beyond. We are always open to new ideas, so don't be afraid of thinking outside the box here to create the expedition you really want.

The duration of the expeditions at this level are as follows:

4 days and
3 nights

At least 8 hours during the daytime (at least 4 of which must be spent journeying)

Adventure Beyond are here to help you through this process all you need to do is decide on the mode of transport to use.

Walking Expedition

Canoeing Expedition

Kayaking Expedition

They all offer a different challenge it really depends upon your preference, we will be happy to discuss these options with you if you would like more information. At this stage in the awards chances are you have been on a couple of walking expedition so why not try something new.

Safety is our number one priority, with this in mind we believe that the key is to train you well. Right from the outset we will teach you the skills you need to complete the expedition from hazard awareness, map reading, keeping kit dry to paddling a canoe there are so many things we impart it would be a long page if I wrote everything.

Staff Our staff are all highly experienced, happy and well trained holding the current national governing body award relevant to the type of expedition undertaken as well as holding first aid qualification and CRB checked. All of whom have a passion for the outdoors and a lifetime of experience. During the expeditions we head out into the hills or river and dont stay in a vehicle with a pair of binoculars mainly because that is boring.

Something different if you have been sleeping in a tent on previous expeditions and would like more of bush craft slant on things let us teach you how to cook on a fire and sleep under the stars in a hammock with a tarp on standby incase it rains. We find this a nice progression for groups who have completed their previous awards in tents.

We also offer expeditions to many countries outside the UK. These are not ‘OFF THE SHELF’ expeditions, they are put together with your needs and ideas at heart.
